Proteins are essentially nitrogenous organic compounds that are important for both growth and repair of tissues. They are basically responsible for developing muscle strength and mass through weights and exercise. Protein is bountiful on many food products such as meat, fish, milk, eggs, and dairy products. There are also some vegetables that are regarded for having rich protein content, such as peanuts, asparagus, and soya.

Carbohydrates on the other hand are important for cell’s structural component. They are the main source of energy and they are also essential for the brain’s function. Carbohydrates are usually stored as glycogen in the muscles and liver. Rice, potatoes, honey, and fruits are known to be rich in carbohydrates. Consuming carbohydrates will help the player to store energy.

Every basketball player should make it a point that they eat at least an hour before playing. This will give their body enough time to digest and absorb the food for them to have the needed energy during the game later on. Having the needed energy will help to enhance their game of basketball as they will not grow weak while in the middle of the game.

Although not every basketball player likes to eat during the game, having a banana, however, will help to replenish lost energy. Having regular fluid intake will also help replenish lost water during the game. After the game though, it is essential that a player should eat food with carbohydrates and protein to help restore his lost energy. Failure to do so will make the player undergo mental and physical fatigue.
